Abstract


Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the perception and experience of calculus removal in the elderly, also to identify impediments concerning periodontal management behaviors and then to suggest oral health management methods to be applied to the elderly age group.

Methods: From December 20, 2019 to January 15, 2020, 171 questionnaires of which subjects are the elderly aged 65 and over in Busan and Gyeongnam regions. were collected and then analyzed via Chi-square verification, t-test, and One-way ANOVA, Multiple Regression analysis.

Results: The influence of periodontal management behavior on the obstacles of the periodontal management behavior was the more positively perceived about the removal of calculus (¥â=-.404, p<.001), and the more experienced it had undergone tartar removal (¥â=-.316, p<. 05), the higher the satisfaction level after the removal of tartar (¥â=-.477, p<.01), the lower the obstacles to periodontal management behavior.

Conclusions: It is necessary to develop a customized periodontal management program for the elderly, taking account of the impediments of the elderly's periodontal management behavior.
